Cal CREATE is an arts-in-service organization that places Berkeley student-teachers in after-school arts programs at local elementary and middle schools in the Berkeley-Oakland area. Members pick a discipline (dance, visual arts, creative writing, or theater), design their own curriculum, and teach 1-2 classes per week on site. Weekly training sessions cover curriculum development, positive behavior support, and social justice in the classroom. Local professional teaching artists also mentor student-teachers throughout the semester.
