Preseason practices begin in the Fall semester. The competitive league season is in the Spring, when the team plays in the D1 Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference.

How competitive is the team?

The team finished 2nd place at both the USA Rugby 15s and 7s Collegiate Championships in Spring 2025, their first-ever appearance at the CRAA D1 National Championship. They have also sent players to the USA Rugby Women's National Team, the Women's 7s National Team, and the U20 National Team.

Is this a varsity sport?

No. Cal Women's Rugby is a Registered Student Organization and club sport, not a varsity program. Being member-run means players with a variety of experience can actively participate and take on leadership roles.
