Do I need any experience to show up to practice?

No experience is needed. All members of the public are welcome at any practice, and the club loves teaching players everything from the foundations of the game to high-level strategy and advanced sparring.

What is jugger, exactly?

Jugger is a five-a-side team sport involving elements of capture the flag and sparring. Both teams fight to get a skull into the enemy team's goal. It originated in Germany and has spread to Australia, Asia, and the US, which hosts around 35 recognized teams.

Can I take a class to learn jugger for academic credit?

Yes. The club offers ERG98: Introduction to Jugger, a DeCal course covering rules, sparring, chain and chainbreak, field strategy, and equipment. It is graded Pass/No Pass, with attendance, weekly quizzes, and discussion posts as the main requirements.

What does a typical DeCal class session look like?

Each session is split between roughly 30-40 minutes of lecture and 70-80 minutes of practical fieldwork, where students run drills and play games. Missing more than three classes results in being dropped from the course.

Does the club host its own tournaments?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The club hosts Fog of War, a multi-team tournament with a full match schedule, bracket, and team stats tracked publicly on the club's website. Ursae Majoris also travels to compete at external events like Mile High Open.
