A²MEND's UC Berkeley student charter is part of a national nonprofit network focused on Black male student success. Members join an affirming brotherhood, attend monthly programming and social activities, connect with mentors in their career fields, and compete for scholarships. Standout opportunities include the annual African American Male Summit in Los Angeles and the Africa Study Abroad Program, which has sent students to Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, and Tanzania since 2018.

African American Male Summit (Annual)
Held each year in Los Angeles since 2008, drawing 1,000+ students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Features keynote speakers, interactive workshops, a job fair, a Women's Leadership Institute, and an HBCU College Fair focused on increasing Black male student success in community colleges.
20th Annual African American Male Summit
Scheduled for March 4-5, 2027 at the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center in Chula Vista, CA. Theme: The A2MEND Effect: 20 Years of Impact.
A²MEND Anti-Racism Institute Webinar Series
A multi-part webinar series featuring nationally recognized scholars including Dr. Ibram Kendi, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Joy DeGruy, and others. Topics include anti-Black racism, institutional reform, and pro-Black education.
All African Diaspora Education Summit
A biennial summit held at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Co-sponsored by A²MEND. First held in September 2022 with 600+ educators; a second summit brought 300+ educators back.
Representation Matters Webinar
A webinar on representation and equity in higher education. A November 2022 session was held on Nov. 18.
Member Experiences
Africa Study Abroad Program
Annual summer trip for Leadership Academy mentees escorted by A²MEND board members. Countries visited have included Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, and Tanzania. Participants explore museums, historical monuments, cultural landmarks, and sites connected to the transatlantic slave trade. Described by participants as life-changing.
Monthly Programming and Social Activities
Leadership Academy members engage with peers through monthly programming and social activities, including movie/film screenings, seminars, and networking events.
Community Service Projects
Leadership Academy members complete a community service project every academic year, including efforts in both Northern and Southern California.
Sports and Entertainment Excursions
Members have attended events such as Lakers and Clippers games as part of A²MEND's member activities.
