Gamma Phi Lambda is the Bay Area chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first Black intercollegiate Greek-lettered fraternity, chartered in Berkeley in 1947. Members focus on educational empowerment, community uplift, and mentorship through programs like Alpha Academy and the Leadership, Technology, and Innovation program. The chapter has provided scholarships to college-bound students since the 1970s through its Education Foundation and has a history of civic leadership rooted in civil rights work.
