Do I have to be a STEM major to join or submit work?

No. The magazine is open to all students with a story to share, regardless of major and career plans. STEM students are especially encouraged to submit work that reflects on the human aspects of their career aspirations and extracurricular experience, but humanities students are equally welcome.

What roles exist on the team besides writing?

Atrium has separate departments for editing, writing, art, layout design, and event planning. Past issues list artists, layout designers, and events staff alongside editors and writers, so there are non-writing ways to contribute.

How often does Atrium publish?

Accepted Answer

Atrium publishes each semester (fall and spring), with occasional open-submission summer issues. It has published eight issues since launching in Spring 2021, including two summer issues (Issue 2.5 and Issue 4.5).

What kinds of work does Atrium publish?

Each issue is organized around a theme (past themes include Continuum, Microcosm, Pulse, Recursion, and Entropy) and includes poetry, prose, fiction, nonfiction essays, original music, and visual art, all connected to the intersection of science and the human experience.
