Alternative Breaks is a student-run service-learning program housed in the Public Service Center that explores social justice issues through service, education, and reflection. Each spring break, members go on week-long trips to locations like San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, Central Valley, and Puerto Rico, working directly with community partners on issues including economic justice, immigration rights, environmental justice, public health, and farmworker rights. Every trip is paired with a 2-unit DeCal that participants take in the spring semester to build the theoretical framework behind their service work.
