Cal ASCE is the central hub for civil and environmental engineering students at Berkeley, founded in 1921. It umbrellas nine competition teams (concrete canoe, steel bridge, seismic design, environmental, construction, and more), hosts company infosessions every Tuesday and Thursday, and puts on a student-run spring career fair. Members can also join BBQs, game nights, and holiday socials. No application is required to join a competition team, just passion for CEE.

Events They Host
Spring CEE Career Fair
Student-run, held each spring (most recent listing: late January/February at Pauley Ballroom, MLK Student Union). Free for CEE graduate/master's students and ASCE members; $15 at the door for others.
Fall CEE Career Fair
Hosted by the Career Center, co-hosted by ASCE. Held in fall semester.
Company Infosessions
Held every Tuesday and Thursday, 5-6:30 PM throughout the school year. Civil engineering companies present to students; members can win raffle prizes for attending.

Engineering Licensure Workshop
Professional development event covering the engineering licensure process.
ASCE MidPac (Mid-Pacific Student Symposium)
Annual regional competition and conference where Cal teams compete against other universities. Cal has hosted this event.
AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition
Annual structural engineering competition where the Steel Bridge team designs and fabricates a steel bridge over 20 feet long.
EERI Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition
International competition hosted by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Team designs and fabricates a 5-foot balsa wood tower tested on a shake table.
ASC Regions 6 & 7 Competition
Construction team competition held in Reno, Nevada. Cal sent 80 students across 10 teams most recently.
Geo-Institute GeoWall Competition
National competition where teams design and build mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls using paper reinforcement. Cal placed nationally for the first time in 2026.
ITE Sandbox Competition
Transportation design competition attended by the Cal Transportation Team.
Interdistrict Transportation Competition
Competition where the Transportation Team redesigns transportation networks for safe, sustainable, multimodal connectivity.
AREMA National Conference
Annual national conference for the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, where Cal AREMA members network with industry leaders and students from other universities.
National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC)
National competition following the Mid-Pacific regional conference. Cal has five national titles.
