BUILD (Berkeley United in Literacy Development) is one of the largest reading programs in the East Bay. Mentors are each matched with 3 children and meet with them individually for 30-35 minute after-school sessions twice a week at school and community sites in Oakland and Berkeley. Mentors work with the same kids for at least one semester, attend 3 trainings per semester, and join weekly team meetings. Participation can earn work-study pay, course credit, or count as volunteer service.
