Do I need to be able to read sheet music to audition?

For singers, yes, but you don't have to be great at it. The group expects some level of sheet music skills since parts are learned primarily from written music, but rusty readers are welcome. For vocal percussionists, no sheet music reading is required at all, since those parts are typically not written out.

What experience level do I need to audition?

Members' experience varies, but the group looks for good intonation and pitch, the ability to carry a part while others sing different parts, and openness to musical feedback. Interest in vocal percussion or music arranging is a big plus.

Can DeCadence be booked for private events?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The group performs at birthdays, staff parties, alumni events, student outreach programs, and even the occasional proposal or wedding. To book them, email decadence.berkeley@gmail.com with the date, time, location, requested attire, and event information. Song requests can be made by checking the repertoire page first.

Where and when can I watch DeCadence perform for free?

Members sing every Wednesday at noon under Sather Gate on campus. Weekly Sproul performances are also streamed live on their Instagram.
