Future Advancers of Science and Technology

FAST connects graduate-level STEAM researchers with under-resourced high school students to mentor them through a year-long research project. Members guide mentees from brainstorming a research question through conducting experiments, with career development workshops and college application support along the way. The year culminates in a symposium where students present their work, hear from professors, meet college recruiters, and compete for scholarships.

Events They Host
Pitch Day
Held in early fall at local high schools; promotes the program through demonstrations of unknowns in science to recruit student mentees.
End-of-Year Research Symposium
All FAST participants present their year-long research projects; includes talks from professors, college recruiters, student-nominated awards, and scholarship opportunities.
Local Science Fairs
Students are encouraged to participate in local science fairs to showcase their research.

Brainstorming Sessions
