Lambda Theta Alpha is the first Latina sorority founded in the nation, established in 1975 at Kean University on the principle of unity, love, and respect. Members participate in charitable, social, political, and educational programming through commitments to academic excellence, personal and professional development, and community activism. LTA describes itself as a non-exclusionary sorority open to all ethnicities and backgrounds, built around the idea of the 'universal woman.'

Events They Host
St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer
Annual national walk/run held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. LTA became an official partner of this event in 2014 and participates across chapters nationwide to raise funds for St. Jude.
Lambda Hill Days 2025
Ninth annual advocacy event held April 6-9, 2025 in Washington, D.C. where LTA's Cohort 9 showcased advocacy-in-action efforts on Capitol Hill.
Letters Beyond Borders Campaign
Inaugural campaign launched in celebration of the United Nations' World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, announced May 21, 2025.
National Voter Registration Day participation
LTA joined hundreds of organizations for National Voter Registration Day on September 16, promoting voter registration resources through its VOTE411.org/LTA guide.
Study skills workshops, time management seminars, and study sessions
Open to entire campus communities, not just members, as part of LTA's education commitment.

Member Experiences
Golden Celebration / 50th Anniversary Weekend
Held December 5, 2025 at Kean University, the birthplace of the sorority. The Golden Hour event welcomed sisters, alumnae, and guests for an evening of celebration, reflection, and giving, including the announcement of two $50,000 philanthropic gifts.
National Annual Convention / Banquet
Annual gathering that includes a national banquet with an Omega Chapter ceremony honoring deceased members, referred to as Lambda Angels.
Selma voting rights march
LTA marched for voter rights at the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma.
