Nuclear Is Clean Energy Club

NiCE is UC Berkeley's pro-nuclear advocacy club, founded in 2023. Members meet weekly on Thursdays for speaker talks with industry professionals and researchers, letter-writing campaigns to state and federal representatives, and discussions on nuclear technology and policy. Outside meetings, the club tables nearly every weekday on Sproul Plaza, collects petition signatures around Berkeley, and organizes industry field trips like a guided tour of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Members come from engineering, policy, environmental science, and communications backgrounds.

Tabling on Sproul Plaza
NiCE tables nearly every weekday on Sproul Plaza with a green tablecloth and nuclear-related items on display, including radiation calibration sources and natural radiation examples like bananas.
Nuclear Petition Signature Collecting
Members spread out across Berkeley to collect petition signatures from the public in parks, by knocking on doors, and at local farmers markets in support of amending the Nuclear Free Berkeley Act.
Letter Writing Campaign
Members write letters to local, state, and congressional representatives on nuclear energy policy. The campaign was featured as one of the most popular posts on r/nuclear.

Bay Area Council Meeting (SF Boat Trip)
In February 2026, the club visited the Bay Area Council aboard the historic Klamath ferry boat in San Francisco, receiving a presentation from Julian Lake on nuclear policy advocacy and touring the boat.
Member Experiences
Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Tour
Annual overnight trip to Diablo Canyon NPP near San Luis Obispo. In May 2025, 28 students attended, touring the turbine hall, control room simulator, and surrounding environment, then meeting with plant staff and local nuclear advocacy groups at a nearby country club. Fully funded by donors.

New members are paired with board members to help bring them into the club community. Announced at the Fall 2025 welcome meeting.
