EA Berkeley is a local chapter of the global effective altruism movement, a research field and philosophical community focused on maximizing the good you can do with your time, work, and resources. Members attend weekly Sunday meetings, join 10-week fellowships with 1.5 hours of reading and 1.5 hours of group discussion per week, and work on projects in areas like global health, animal welfare, and AI safety. Cause-specific advanced fellowships are also available.

Mini-Elk Contest
A past contest where participants proposed solutions to a simplified version of the AI alignment problem of Eliciting Latent Knowledge.
Distillation Contest
A past contest where participants distilled AI alignment research, scored by five external judges working on AI safety outside of UC Berkeley.
