SNAPkids (Special Needs Aquatic Program) pairs Berkeley student volunteers one-on-one with children ages 1-18 who have special needs, including cerebral palsy, autism, and developmental delays, for weekly adapted aquatic sessions. Volunteers build unique bonds with their swimmers while helping them develop confidence, coordination, communication, and social skills through swimming. The program has run since 1991 and serves children and families across the San Francisco Bay Area.
