Teach in Prison (TIP) brings UC Berkeley undergraduates inside San Quentin State Prison to tutor incarcerated individuals in English-language and reading comprehension through weekly one-on-one sessions. On campus, members take part in a DeCal course that deepens understanding of the carceral state and grounds the tutoring work in abolitionist values. TIP operates from a belief in liberatory, non-hierarchical education and a reciprocal relationship between tutors and the people they work with.
