AWE is a student-run org for female and non-binary undergraduates in CS and EE at Berkeley. Members attend weekly Breaktimes, which are casual lunches with company representatives from sponsors like Google, Apple, and Nvidia, plus technical workshops, socials, and professional development sessions. Members also get access to a weekly newsletter, a resume book sent to sponsor companies, a Slack community with a weekly Donut pairing, and an optional mentorship program connecting underclassmen with upperclassmen.

Events They Host
Breaktimes
Weekly Friday lunch events (12–1 PM) exclusively for AWE members. Company representatives from sponsor companies attend to chat with members about their work, company culture, and experiences as gender minorities in tech. Past companies have included Uber, Amazon, DeepScale, Capital One, Salesforce, and Humane.
Teatimes
Virtual alternative to Breaktimes, typically held on Zoom. AWE provides boba discount codes so members can order from local shops. Format is more flexible than Breaktimes.
Industry Events (CAP Events)
Industry events open to the broader EECS community, including infosessions, tech talks, and panel discussions hosted with the UC Berkeley Corporate Access Program.
Technical Workshops
Workshops on topics chosen by member demand, covering skills not taught in class. Past examples include machine learning, website building, and resume writing. Led by AWEfficers and other student org leaders.
BLI Study Hours and Workshops
Dedicated workshops and study sessions for the Black, Latinx, and Indigenous community within AWE, aimed at closing racial disparities in the gender gap in tech.
LGBTQ+ Events
Events focused on building community at the intersection of tech and LGBTQ+ identity, addressing the experiences of gender minorities in EECS.
General Meetings / Socials
Monthly gatherings for members to connect. Typical socials include a get-to-know-each-other activity, a craft or game, and food.
Member Experiences
AWEffice Hours
Held in 286 Cory Hall. Informal drop-in time for members to socialize and study with AWEfficers. Past themes have included resume evaluations, interview prep, and group studying.
Mentorship Program Events
Ongoing paired mentorship between upperclassmen and newer members throughout the semester. Includes mentor-mentee meetups, mentorship panels, social activities, double dates with other mentorship groups, and Mentor Coffee Chats.
AWEfficer Retreat
Officer retreat for AWEfficers. Documented in Fall 2022.
Company Field Trips
In-person visits to sponsor company offices. Past example includes a Fall 2022 Atlassian field trip.
Donut Pairings
Weekly Slack-based random pairing of members to meet and connect one-on-one, open to all members.
Professional Development Office Hours
Office hours where members can chat with AWEfficers about resume review, recruiting questions, and the job/internship search process.
