JMed: The Jewish Pre-Medical Network at Berkeley

JMed connects pre-health students at Berkeley with the Jewish medical community through guest lectures by Jewish doctors, medical student discussion panels, private group lunches with doctors, Shabbat dinners, and volunteering opportunities. Members also explore Jewish perspectives on medical ethics through a DeCal course with weekly guest lecturers (local doctors and rabbis). The club is open to any student entering a health-related field and is ASUC and Jewish Student Union sponsored.

Faculty Shabbat Dinner at Hillel
Hosted every semester in collaboration with other academic groups in the Jewish Student Union. Designed to connect students with their professors.
Un-zip Your Genes Guest Lecture
In November 2011, Dr. Packman, a UCSF professor and co-director of the UCSF-Stanford Lysosomal Disease Center, spoke about genetic disorders within the Jewish community.
DeCal on Jewish Medical Ethics
A recurring student-run course covering bioethical principles in the Jewish legal tradition and their relation to modern scientific practice. Features a guest lecturer (local doctor or rabbi) each week.
Save a Child's Heart Fundraiser
Philanthropy event that raised over $1,500 for Save A Child's Heart in spring 2011, including a cupcake sale.
