What is the office draw and why does it matter?

Each spring, MGSA runs an office draw where graduate students select their desk space in Evans Hall for the coming academic year. Students can block with others to pick offices together, squat to stay in their current office, or float as individuals. Your year in the program determines your priority number, with lower numbers picking earlier. Being an MGSA officer earns you a priority of 0, the best possible.

Many Cheerful Facts is a recurring event where graduate students can sign up to give short talks. It's one of the main ways members share math and connect across research areas.

Can I get involved without running for officer?

Yes. Members can host a Friday tea, speak at Many Cheerful Facts, serve as a peer mentor for other grad students, or mentor undergrads through the Directed Reading Program (DRP). Organizing NRing or URep events also earns a small office draw priority boost.

How are officers chosen and what do they get?

Accepted Answer

Officers are elected by the graduate student body. Elections for most seats happen at the end of each academic year; one seat is reserved for a first-year student and filled at the start of the year. Full-year officers receive an office draw priority of 0, the best available, and half-year officers get their priority halved.

Where can I buy MGSA merchandise?

T-shirts ($15), mugs ($15), and hoodies ($30) are sold in person at Friday tea during the semester. Mugs, stickers, and shirts are also available year-round through the MGSA Redbubble store.
